Yoga and the Vedic Tradition: The Bhagavad Gita
with Craig Williams. (Thursdays) The Bhagavad Gita is one of the most revered and
cherished texts of all of Indian Literature and has influenced the Western mind perhaps more than any other Eastern
text. Unfortunately, the Gita has not been explored by the Western Yoga community as much as other texts such as
the Yoga Sutras. The Bhagavad Gita is the main text that all six schools of Vedic philosophy look to as their foundation.
Therefore, to truly grasp any strain of Yogic thought, one should examine the Gita in detail. In this series, we
examine the Bhagavad Gita as a precious jewel, appreciating its many facets and explore how a deeper understanding
of the Gita can allow the reader to prepare the mind and heart for deeper Yogic teachings. We will also examine
how the eternal message of the Gita is of utmost importance to the Western world in this time of ecological, psychological,
and spiritual crisis and how it can inspire and transform not just one's Yoga practice but one's entire Heart.

Russell Case. The Mysore class runs as a self-practice tutorial. You are receiving
one on one instruction simultaneously with other practitioners. You are literally learning to practice on your
own. The instructor's role in a Mysore Ashtanga class is to facilitate trust and to make sure that the student
has the qualities of "stiram sukham asanam" before continuing to the next level. This means "sturdy
sweetness in the posture." This is the exact method that has been taught traditionally for generations. It
stems directly from the Togden Tibetan Yogi austerities taught to Krishnamacharya and then taught to Sri. K. Pattabhi
Jois. This is a great opportunity for extended study with a teacher who has spent much time and training in the
classical Mysore Ashtanga environment. Ashtanga students of all levels are invited to participate as many of these

Chakra Theory and Meditation with Paul Grilley. Chi (prana) is the energy that animates the body, Meridians are the channels in which Chi flows,
and Chakras are spiritual centers in the brain and spine that control the flow of Chi. The fundamental premise
of Hatha Yoga, Tantra Yoga and Taoism is that these energies need to be brought under the Yogi's control if the
mind is to be calmed and the Self revealed. This class will explore some practices from Paul's DVD "Chakra
Theory and Meditation". Time: 1:00 - 4:00 Location: Yoga Yoga Westgate, Austin. For more info click here.

Yin Yoga with Paul Grilley. Most forms of Yoga
practiced today are Yang, emphasizing repetitions of movements that require strength and balance. Yin Yoga, a relaxed
practice of floor postures held for three to five minutes at a time is the ideal complement to the more muscular
Yang Yoga. A Yin practice emphasizes the connective tissue of the hips, pelvis and lower spine preparing the body
and the mind for longer meditation practices. By drawing the student's awareness away from the muscles and deeper
into the bones a deep level of relaxed focus is achieved. Location: Yoga Yoga Westgate. For more info click here.

Energetic Awareness in Asana and Pranayama
with Debbie Mills. Discover the ways that yoga can enrich your meditation practice
in this workshop by Debbie Mills. Develop an effortless meditation practice in this weekend yoga workshop. Cultivating
an awareness of the flow of Prana (subtle energy) in yoga practice can be easy, but it requires letting go in the
mind. One needs to release the desire to control or negate the outcome of the Asana (posture) and the Pranayama
(length and regulation of the breath), and ease into them. By allowing space to explore the nuances of the holding
patterns, one finds that the flow of Prana increases, the body becomes more supple, the mind less rigid and the
breath deeper and more resonant, resulting in a calm mind prepared to focus and meditate. This weekend workshop
will integrate the use of Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara (sensory withdrawal) and Dhyana (meditation), so the practitioner
can experience the cumulative, effortless approach to meditation practice, as espoused by Patanjali in The Yoga
Sutras. Debbie Mills has been a devoted student of Yoga and Ayurveda since 1993, and she is a senior student of
Sri Srivatsa
Ramaswami. She has been a registered massage therapist in Texas for the last 15 years and a practicing yoga therapist
for 13 years. She began her studies with Dr. Robert Svoboda and Sri Srivatsa Ramaswami nearly a decade ago. She
currently leads a nomadic lifestyle - teaching yoga and eastern philosophy, healing using massage, ayurveda and
energetic principles, and leading yoga treks in the Himalayas of India and Nepal. Time: 10am-4:30pm Location: The

Henry David Thoreau's WALDEN (6 Tuesdays)
with Mike Keller. This is a study course in Henry David Thoreau's Walden. The text
will be available for purchase before the first class meeting. Walden is arguably America's foremost spiritual
literary work. It can be challenging to read, but its language and imagery comprise a powerful and memorable means
of conveying essential truths bearing on how to lead a spiritually fulfilling life. Thoreau's life at Walden Pond
was an experiment in inward transformation, involving a radical simplification of practical life, living in the
present, self-observation, contemplation, and belief in the capacity in himself and every person for spiritual
rebirth. Thoreau's perceptions and advice are similar to Zen teaching and practice at many points. Please talk
to the instructor if you would like to take class without having taken Introduction to Zen. Time: 6:30-8:30 Location:
Houston Zen Center. For more info click here.

Recovering the Sacred: From Materialism to Mystery with
John McGee (8 Tuesdays). The hearts of modern men have been killed by rationalism
and science, according to German economist and sociologist Max Weber. He analyzed the modern condition as one of
scientific analysis and intellectual rationalization that has removed the possibility of metaphysical and spiritual
explanations of the world. Existentialist philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre spoke of a “God-shaped hole” in human consciousness
where God had always been. Further, recent books on atheism have become phenomenal best sellers. Join theologian
John McGee as he explores the origins and motives of the “God-as-delusion” movement, the extent to which its critics
may be
legitimate and the extent to which the movement distorts the dialogue with faith. As McGee states, “Rather than
simply blaming the messenger, religious faith must confront the challenge of theism in a profoundly changed cultural
context. Time: 7:00-8:30 p.m. Location: Rice Univ. For more info click here.

Ayurveda and Yoga Psychology ~ A six-week special series with Craig Williams. Ayurveda and Yoga are two closely related sister
sciences rooted in the Vedic tradition of India. From an Eastern perspective, Ayurveda is the science of healing
the body and mind while Yoga is the science of Self-realization. The definition of health (or svastha) in Ayurveda
is not solely the absence of disease. Ayurveda encompasses all aspects of a person's life: body, mind, and spirit.
Unfortunately, the Western perception of ayurveda is often very narrow and misunderstood, much like the perception
that
Yoga is merely physical exercise. Both Ayurveda and Yoga envision the human being as a multi-layered expression
of consciousness and seek to heal or restore balance at levels much deeper than just the physical. In this series,
we will examine how Ayurveda and Yoga view health, and explore therapies of both systems which target the root
of all disease - the Mind and Consciousness. We will explore ways to harmonize our daily lives with the rhythm
of the Universe, and explore ways to heal our bodies and minds to prepare ourselves for deeper spiritual practices.

White Tantric: A One Day Meditation Workshop.
Our minds release 1000 thoughts per wink of an eye. Some of these thoughts get
lost in the unconscious, and some get stuck in the subconscious and affect the conscious mind. These thoughts become
feelings, emotions, desires, multi-realities or fantasies. Instead of mastering our mind, often our mind and thoughts
direct us, which can cause impulsive decisions, poor communication and self-imposed stress. White Tantric Yoga
enables you to break through these subconscious blocks, so you can have a more enjoyable life. In the shortest
time, you can experience release from a lot of the burden you carry in your mind. When you see and act on each
moment with clarity, you can gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your life can change. Your mind, body,
and soul can act together as one. This is the path to personal freedom and awareness, and will bring more success
to every area of your life. White Tantric Yoga is done in pairs as a
group meditation. You sit facing a partner and follow instructions for meditation given on videotape by the Mahan
Tantric, Yogi Bhajan. A representative of the Mahan Tantric will be present to facilitate White Tantric Yoga. Each
workshop consists of between six and eight kriyas. A KRIYA is a meditation incorporating. Time: 8am-6:30pm Location:

Yogasutra Chapter 1, Chanted & Clarified with
Chase Bossart of Healing Yoga Foundation. The real power of yoga lies not in the

Yoga and the Vedic Tradition ~ A six-week special series with Craig Williams. The emergence of Yoga in the West is a relatively
recent phenomena. Various schools or branches of Yoga abound each touting a unique method, viewpoint or goal. Far
from being a relaxation technique or exercise fad, the original Yoga tradition developed out of a larger multi-dimensional
Indic heritage: the Vedic Tradition. Unfortunately in the West few Yoga teachers or practitioners are aware of
the Vedic roots of the Yoga tradition or the Dharmic cultural milieu from which Yoga blossomed. In this 6 part
series, we will examine the original Vedic Yoga and its various branches or Vedic sciences: Yoga, Ayurveda, Jyotish,
and Vedanta. We will examine Vedic source texts such as the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads and explore the deeper
practices of Yoga: Pratyahara, Dhyana, Mantra and Atma-Vichara. Far from being just a dry and academic series,
we will reconnect Yoga to its Vedic heritage and experience the soul and spirit of the Indic culture. Time: 7:30-9:30pm
Location: Yoga Yoga, Austin. For more info click here.

Tibetan Meditation with Healing Sounds
with Alejandro Chaoul. Scholar and popular teacher Alejandro Chaoul introduces
participants to the timeless wisdom of the Tibetan Bon meditation tradition. Explore the intimate connection between
healing and the sounds of particular syllables, as expressed in ancient Tibetan texts. Tibetan meditative sounds
can affect us on all levels -- physical, mental, and spiritual. In this two part workshop, participants will learn
how to meditate using these ancient Tibetan sacred sounds and apply that state of mind in everyday life.Meditation
methods will include awareness of breath, visualization and concentration. While producing the sounds, participants
will focus on the meaning associated with each sound and visualize its corresponding color of light and location
in the body (chakra). Working with particular circumstances from everyday life, this practice can help cleanse
and release inner obstacles, connect with a sense of completeness and, if needed, retrieve a positive quality (e.g.,
love, joy, or peace of mind). That quality and sense of completeness are then brought to manifest and integrate
into daily life, and to be shared with others. All are welcome. No previous experience with meditation is required
for this unique workshop. This practice can be done sitting on a chair or cushion, whatever is most comfortable
for the practitioner. Time: 2-5pm. Location: Jung Center. For more info click here.

by specific body movements. The body movements (tsa lung) work with different energetic centers (chakras) to provide
a sense of embodied meditation, allowing you to connect to your inner wisdom and potential to achieve a relaxed
yet aware state of mind and a healthier lifestyle. Participants will be encouraged to make this meditative routine
a part of their lives to allow them to subdue their “monkey mind,” as Tibetan texts call the human tendency to
run from thought to thought, emotion to emotion and place to place in search of happiness. Time: 9am-4pm. Location:

Yoga & Writing Retreat with Charles
MacInerney. At the heart of this retreat is the combination of Hatha Yoga, Meditation,
and Creative Writing. Patricia, Charles and their numerous students have found this combination to be very powerful.
The Yoga serves to energize participants and creates a sense of physical well-being, while bringing them back to
their body and their senses. Each Yoga class ends with a deep guided relaxation which calms the mind and relaxes
students into a creative Alpha brainwave pattern. After we write, often flow of consciousness, with out editing
or filtering, we gather in small, intimate groups and anyone who wishes to, reads what they have written. Beginning
and experienced writers alike will find a supportive, encouraging context in which to write from their deepest
selves. The most important aspect of the schedule is that all yoga, writing workshops, and even meals are optional
and should be considered free time. We often have a writer who chooses not to participate in the yoga, or a yoga
student who chooses not to participate in the writing component. This retreat is for the participants to customize
in order to fulfill their needs and expectations. Location: Cedarbrake Renewal Center - Belton, TX.(mid-way between
